Abstract
394,713. Feedwater regulators for steam boilers. WOODVINE, J. G. R., Ellesmere House, Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury. Jan. 2,1932, No. 110. [Class 123 (ii).] A thermostat 140 placed in the steam space of a boiler to control the feedwater supply also controls a valve 18 in a byepass 17 between the boiler water space just below the normal water level and the superheated steam space 141 in front of the thermostat. The byepass is led off from the lower part of a bend 16 in the boiler tubing between the water space 12 and the steam space 13. If, when the expansion of the thermal element of the thermostat operates the feed pump 19 and opens the valve 18, the boiler water is at or above the normal level, water is injected through the byepass into the steam space to check the expansion of the thermal element and the operation of the pump ; but if the water level is below the normal, steam passes through the byepass and the thermal element is not cooled and the operation of the feed pump is not checked. Further expansion of the thermal element operates a device closing down the heating means.
