Abstract
345,287. Feed water supply systems for steam boilers. PENNINGTON, R., 7, Sherdley Road, Crumpsall, and MATHER & PLATT, Ltd., Park Works, both in Manchester. Nov. 16, 1929, No. 35112. [Class 123 (ii).] In a closed feed-system comprising a surge tank d between the condenser extraction pump c and the boiler-feed pump g, to prevent excessive rise of pressure in the feed-pipe between the feed-pump and the boiler, the feed regulator e is arranged between the surge tank and the feed-pump. The regulator e, Fig. 1, is controlled directly from the boiler water level and the feed-pipe is unrestricted. The feed may be supplied through the usual regulator r, Fig. 2, the regulator e being then operated by the fluctuations in pressure in the feedpipe. A relief valve s allows water to return to the surge tank d when the pressure in the feed-pipe rises above a certain amount. A tank f is interposed between the surge tank and the feed-pump. The extraction pump and a booster pump h deliver into a series of heaters i from which the heated water flows through a pipe n into the tank d together with the condensate from the heaters. Pumps may be provided between the heaters, and all the pumps may be arranged in line and driven from a common shaft.
