Abstract
475,767. Heating by circulation of fluids; feedwater - storage apparatus. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Kraftanlagen Akt.-Ges.) March 15, 1937, No. 7568. [Classes 64 (i), 64 (ii), and 123 (ii)] In a heating system of the kind in which hot water is circulated between a steamheated mixing - preheater and the consumers, a boiler 1 supplies steam to a turbine 3 and to other consumers at 4. The turbine discharges in part to a preheater 5 from which hot water is extracted by a pipe 6 for supply to consumers 8. Water returns through valve 10 to a distributer 11 in the steam space of the preheater. A pipe 12 connects the boiler to the flow pipe 7, and valve 13 is controlled by the water level in the boiler. The water in the heating system may vary in volume, such variations causing level variations between a and b in the preheater 5. If the level falls below b, water is supplied to the system by a pump 14. The steam condensed from turbine 3 and used by consumers 4 may be fed direct to the boiler 1, or water may be forced by pump 14 into preheater 5, and the whole of the boiler feedwater supplied through pipe 12. In Fig. 2, a boiler 21 supplies steam to consumers 23, 24, and the preheater is arranged in a storage chamber 25, a layer of Raschig rings 27 being used to facilitate the condensation of steam. Hot water is supplied through pipe 29 and returns through pipe 30. The water level may vary between a and b. The return water is also forced by a pump 31 through valve 32 to the sprayer 26 and through valve 33 to a flue gas preheater 34. Valve 32 is controlled by the pressure in the steam pipe 22. Hot water is stored in the upper part of chamber 25, the plane of separation from the colder water moving downwards as it accumulates. Water from the preheater 34 passes into the boiler 21 according to the level in the latter, or into pipe 37 for supply to consumers. A mixing preheater, Fig. 3, comprises a container 41 having an aperture 42, through which internal fittings are introduced, closed by a cover 43. The water inflow pipe 44 is provided with an overflow 45 carried by crossbars 49, and the pipe 44 also carries a distributer 50 supported by rods 51. A further distributer 52 consists of 3 segments to facilitate introduction through opening 42, supported on members 53, 54.
