Abstract

225,661. Ross & Co., Ltd., R. L., and Hargreaves, W. Oct. 5, 1923. Safety valves.-A spring-loaded safety valve of the kind provided with an annular valve member has the loading spring housed in an enclosed chamber beneath the valve seat. In the form shown in the Figure the valve member d engages two concentric seats a<2>, b<1> formed on the top of the casing, and is provided with a series of apertures e to enable the valve to discharge at both the inner and outer seats. The valve member is guided by a tubular projection d' engaging a plug g screwed into the casing and its lift is limited by a perforated flange j<2> on a member y screwed on to the casing. The loading spring h is arranged in a chamber h spaced from the outer casing to leave an annular passage c, and bears on an abutment g' on a spindle f provided with an adjustable collar resting on the valve member. An easing lever i is arranged beneath a bridge d' formed on the valve member. In a modification the spindle has inner and outer members so that in the event of the inner spindle breaking the outer spindle takes up the load. According to the Provisional Specification weights may be used in place of a spring.
