Abstract

532,599. Safety-valves. COCKBURNS, Ltd., RODGER, J., and GRANT, T. Sept. 11, 1939, No. 25524. [Class 135] A safety valve has a valve member 10 of pot form fitted with a loose lid 15 and with a ported loose cylindrical sleeve 17 closely surrounding the valve pot. An annular access 18 is provided between the valve element and the sleeve which first receives pressure fluid released by the valve element whereby a " high-lift " is imparted to the valve member. Pressure fluid also passes from the recess 18 through a port 19 to the interior of the pot and lifts the lid 15 to bring a sealing surface 15<SP>4</SP> thereon into engagement with a corresponding surface 16<SP>1</SP> on a sleeve 16. This sleeve is internally slotted to provide a substantially frictionless bearing for the valve spindle 13 which is loaded by an external spring 11. The lower part of the sleeve 17 surrounds a rib 21 on the valve seat member which has a seating surface 14<SP>2</SP> surrounded by a recess 20.
