Abstract

362,802. Lubricating. DOBBIE, E. D., Balvonie, Skelmorlie, Ayrshire. March 17, 1931, No. 8139. [Class 12 (iii).] In a carburetter in which the fuel supply is controlled by the pressure of the lubricating oil system, lubricating oil is added to the fuel as a consequence of the lowering of the pressure of the oil supply. The pressure of the oil acts through a diaphragm 11 and a piston 8 to control a spring-loaded valve 6 in a fuel supply conduit leading to the carburetter. A pin 15 is provided to hold open the valve 6 when no oil pressure is available. The. diaphragm 11 is secured between a ledge 12 and a ring 13 on a cylinder 1 and may be secured to the piston 8 at its centre. A spring- loaded non-return valve 22 in a byepass allows a small quantity of lubricating oil to pass through a passage 21 to an annulus 25 ; when the valve 6 closes the oil escapes along the stem of the valve to a port 5 and is carried into the carburetter by the liquid fuel when the valve 6 is opened.
