[Class 135.] In apparatus for regulating a supply of liquid for maintaining a constant level in a container, a feedvalve is subjected in one direction to the feed pressure and the container pressure and in the opposite direction to a pressure which varies up to the feed pressure. Fig. 1 shows an apparatus of the type wherein a valve a controls the passage of the feedwater from supply at d to the container connected at d<1>, feed pressure building up under the leaky piston b when a throttle valve at m is closed by the falling of float k. Leakage passages o, o<1> may be provided in the piston b co-operating with a throttle valve q as in Specification 376,264. The valve a is rendered sensitive and smooth in action by leading feed pressure to a portion of its upper face by a passage a<3>, said portion acting as a piston (or cylinder) co-operating with a cylinder c<2> (or piston). The throttle valve l is shown in Fig. 2, the tube e being connected above the bush p, and the tube n connected below the bush p leading the leakage water directly to the boiler. The leakage water may also pass to the float-chamber by apertures l<4> and grooves in the spindle of the valve l. A spindle s may be screwed down to close the valve a and passage a<3>. A non-return valve f protects the valve a from operation by the boiler pressure should the feed-pressure fail. Specification 285,280, [Class 135], also is referred to.
