Abstract

Feedwater, controlling.-The flow of feedwater through a regulator is first controlled by a valve of the kind operated by the varying pressure behind a leaky piston attached to the valve spindle, and then by a balanced valve directly operated by a float. The bent arm 44 of a float 43 in a chamber in communication with a boiler drum is secured to the spindle 33 of a rotary feed valve 23, and carries a short slotted lever 45 engaging the upper end of a needle valve 47 controlling the escape through a pipe 49 of water leaking past a piston 7 on the spindle of another feed valve 1. The rotary valve is mounted on ball bearings and the liner 24 around the valve is angularly adjustable. The valve spindles are formed with axial passages 39 to balance end thrusts.
