Abstract
597,142. Feedwater regulators for steam boilers. LINDSAY, T. Aug. 20, 1945, No. 21284. [Class 123 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] In a power station installation comprising one or more steam boilers a with superheater a', each boiler having a feed water pump d which is driven by an electrometer h, through a hydraulic coupling i, and is connected to the boiler, through a feed line e including a feed-water heater f and economiser g, the gear ratio of the said coupling is varied to maintain the pump delivery pressure substantially constant and subject only to variation in accordance with the output of the station as determined by an associated turbo-generator b, c. In the form shown adjustment of the hydraulic coupling is effected by a leak-port regulator comprising a lever j which is pivoted at k and is subjected to the pump delivery pressure, acting upwardly through a line n and bellows m, and a downwardly acting solenoid q, energised by the alternator c through a transformer u, t and rectifier s, the lever j adjusting the opening of a leak-port p from which lowpressure fluid from an independent source is discharged after passage through a diaphragm valve w coupled to the controlling valve 1 of said coupling.
