Feed-water, supplying and controlling. - In boiler feed-water systems, means are provided for varying the amount of opening of the feedwater valve together with means for maintaining a constant difference in pressure between the opposite sides of the valve. The feed-water valve 14, Fig. 1, is regulated by known apparatus dependent on the water level in the boiler, the valve-operating lever 15 co-operating with a scale 32 to indicate the flow. Opposite sides of the valve 14 are connected by a duct 24, Fig. 3, and a pipe 22 to chambers 21, 23 on opposite sides of a diaphragm 20, acted on by an adjustable spring 25 and connected to the spindle of a valve 17. The valve 17 is therefore actuated to maintain a constant fall of pressure through the valve 14. In a modification, the valve 17 is controlled by a piston acted on by adjustably weighted lever and by the pressure on the opposite sides of the valve 14. The water may be supplied by a pump delivering at constant pressure.
