Abstract

222,327. Zampa, P. Oct. 16, 1923. Spray carburettors. - Fuel is supplied through a single nozzle or through two nozzles at different levels and hydrogen may be supplied, alone or in conjunction with the fuel, through a pressure-reducing device adapted to serve also as a flow regulator. The carburettor casing 1 contains a tube 15 through which air flows from inlets 14. Within the tube are three nozzles 6, 12, 13 of which 6 communicates past a valve 16 with a hydrogen conduit 5 and 12, 13 communicate through conduits 11, 10 controlled by valves 19, 18, with a float chamber 7. The nozzles 12, 13 are at different heights above the fuel level so as to come into action in succession. The throttle valve 22 is actuated by a lever 23 and its spindle carries a sector-shaped plate 25, a tapered aperture 26 in which controls an extra air inlet 24. The pressure-reducing apparatus for the hydrogen comprises a casing divided by a partition 31, Fig. 2, into chambers A, B the hydrogen being admitted to chamber A at 30. Its admission to chamber B and thence to the carburettor is controlled by a valve 32 the spindle 35 of which is attached to a flexible diaphragm 33 loaded by an adjustable spring 38. The diaphragm is secured by a ring 36 and the spring 38 may be adjusted by a screw 37. The valve 32 closes when the pressure in chamber A exceeds and opens when it falls below a given value.
