Abstract

Feed-water, supplying.-Relates to a boiler in which the steam-producing surface may be varied to a considerable extent by alteration of the water-level, and consists in thermostatic and pressure-actuated apparatus for regulating the feed-supply. A boiler 1, Fig. 2, is connected to a water-main 2 so that the water can flow into or out of the boiler according to whether the pressure in the boiler or in the main is slightly the less. A valve 6 in the feed-pipe is regulated by a thermostat 7 consisting of bimetallic expansion strips 8, Fig. 6, which press against an adjustable wedge 9 rosting upon the valve-spindle. The boiler may be fed from an elevated reservoir 14, Fig. 4, connected at the top of the steam-pipe and communicating with the water-inlet through valves 24, Fig. 7, in a casing 16, which cut off the water supply when the steam pressure is either above or below certain limits. The valves are operated by a piston 18, which is forced upwards by the boiler pressure against the downward pressure of a spring 19.
