Abstract
474,538. Fluid - actuated valves. COPES REGULATORS, Ltd. (Northern Equipment Co.) Aug. 15, 1936, No. 22545. [Class 135] A valve regulating the flow of a fluid such as the feedwater supply to a boiler and actuated by the fluid pressure is controlled by varying the fluid pressure acting on the valve in accordance with the movement of the valve. A boiler feed valve 25, Fig. 2, is actuated by a piston or the like 22 acted upon by the pressure of the feedwater taken from the feed line 19, through a pipe 33, and the pressure on the piston is varied by the valve movement which is communicated to an auxiliary valve 30 controlling the escape of water from the pipe 33 through a pipe 23. The water pressure on the piston tends to close the valve against the opposing pressure of a spring or weight 26 and of the boiler steam admitted below the piston through a pipe 29. The movement of the auxiliary valve is adjustable, and its ports 72, 73, Fig. 6, may be elongated and of gradually increasing width. The water is supplied to a boiler through an economizer, fromwhich it passes through a valve operated by a regulator responsive to changes in the boiler water level.
