376,264. Feedwater regulators. DIGHT, S. R., H.M. Gunboat Yard, Haslar, Gosport. March 31, 1931, No. 9742. [Class 135.] In a feedwater regulator for steam boilers of the kind in which leakage of water from beneath a feed valve past a leaking piston is controlled by a valve operated by a float in a chamber communicating with the boiler, the leakage passage o in the piston b contains a tapered throttling spindle q, so that the leakage is progressively throttled as the feed valve a rises, and the valve a takes up a substantially balanced position for each position of the controlling-float. The position of the spindle q is adjusted by means of a hand-wheel q<2>. Instead of or in addition to the taper of. the spindle. q, the passage o may be tapered. The piston b may be replaced by a diaphragm.
