Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve device for controlling the flow of liquid into a vessel, particularly applicable as a feed water regulator for steam boilers and of the kind in which a piston-actuated main valve is controlled by a float-operated auxiliary valve, is so arranged that a closing movement of the auxiliary valve causes an opening movement of the main valve. In the form shown in the Figure, the main valve 10 is attached to a piston 13 working in a chamber 14 above the valve connected to the boiler 6 through a pipe 16 controlled by a valve 17. The main valve and piston have a central passage 15 controlled by an auxiliary valve 3 actuated by a float 1 so that as the bevel in the boiler rises the auxiliary valve is opened to admit feed pipe pressure to the chamber 14 and so close the main valve. To prevent leakage from the chamber 14 a groove 31 supplied with feed pipe pressure encircles the piston. Modifications are described in which the actuating pistons are arranged below the valves.
