Abstract

108,513. Anthony, A. H. Aug. 5, 1916. Feed-water, controlling.-Relates to automatic feed-regulators of the kind in which the feed-check valve is controlled by the leakage of feed-water past a piston on the stem of the valve, the escape of the leakage water from behind the piston being controlled bv a float, as described in Specification 16097/02. The escape of the leakage water is controlled by a small piston past which the water leaks at a rate less than that at which it leaks past the piston on the feed-valve. The escape of water from behind the piston A, Fig. 1, through the pipe A<1> and valve D to the outlet J is controlled by a piston E on the stem of the valve D. When the water-level falls, the float-controlled valve G opens, and allows the leakage water behind the piston E to escape, thus closing the valve D, and balancing the piston A, and allowing the feed-valve to be forced from its seat by the pressure of the feed-water. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, leakage water is not allowed to flow past the piston E, the piston being controlled by water from the float-chamber entering the space behind the piston through a passage K. The spring-loaded valve D controls the escape of leakage water from behind the piston on the feedvalve. The piston on the feed-valve may be dispensed with, and a small piston may be arranged to operate the valve through a mechanism, such as a lever, giving a mechanical advantage.
