524,702. Fluid-actuated valves. SCHOENING, P., SCHOENING, A., and SCHOENING, B. Feb. 3, 1939, No. 3670. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1938. [Class 135] In a hydraulic control mechanism for friction clutches, in which liquid is supplied from an accumulator charged by a pump, the control valve comprises an adjustably spring-loaded piston valve 20 adapted, under the influence of pressure prevailing in a delivery conduit leading from an outlet 12<SP>1</SP> to the clutch, to connect that conduit, through a bore 24, radial channels 25 and a circumferential groove 23, either to a supply conduit from the accumulator terminating at 26 or to an exhaust conduit leading from a tapered drain-port 27 to a tank from which the pump sucks. The adjustment of the spring 21 as shown is such the fluid pressure necessary in the delivery conduit to close the inlet port 26 leaves the clutch disengaged, but the latter may be engaged to any desired degree by moving the cam 11 by means of the control lever 10 about its pivot 31 until, when the cam has rotated through 180 degrees the spring will be sufficiently stressed to maintain the inlet port 26 open until the clutch is fully engaged. The spring may be adjusted by other means than that shown, or the cam may be pre-set by an adjustable stud connected thereto, in which case the control lever 10 may actuate a separate valve in the pressure supply line.
