Abstract

914,361. Fluid-pressure servo-valves. PHILLIPPS, M. T. April 15, 1959 [April 16, 1958], No. 12804/59. Class 135. A servo-valve has an inlet 2 leading to a chamber 3 provided with an outlet 4, and comprises a main closure member 6 and a pilot valve member 17 guided in bores in the valve body 1. The lower end of the member 6 cooperates with a seat 5 held in place by a flange 7 on the outlet tube 4. A flange 9 on the member 6 slides in the bore 11 with sufficient clearance to permit the passage of water to a passage 13 in the member and thence to a chamber 12. A valve seat 15, held in place in a bore in the member 6, is engaged by the end of the pilot valve member 17 which has a loose fit in the end of the closure member. The member 17 is under the control of a ball valve or other device attached to the arm 30. When the member 17 is raised, water flows out of the chamber 12 via a space 20 to the outlet 4 and the pressure on the flange 9 raises the closure member 6; alternatively, if the pressure is insufficient, flanges 18, 14 on the member 17, 6 respectively engage to lift the member 6. When the member 17 is returned to its seat 15, pressure builds up in the chamber 12 and depresses the closure member 6 on to its seat 5.
