Abstract
969, 605. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Jan. 25,1961 [Jan. 25, 1960], No. 2700/60. Heading G3P. A pressure relief valve comprises an inlet port 4 normally closed by a valve plunger 8 formed with a through passage 11, so that inlet pressure normally acts on both sides of the plunger which is loaded to the closed position by a light spring 6. A pilot valve, which may be formed by two valve members 22, 27 controls release of fluid from the upper side of the plunger. A needle valve 12 is axially adjustable relative to the bore 11 to vary the flow area of this bore. In operation, when the inlet pressure exceeds a predetermined value, the spring loaded ball valve 22 opens and through a guide member 24, opens the valve member 27 thus allowing leakage from the upper side of the plunger 8 through passages 21 and 31 in a member 32. The pressure drop created across the bore 11 moves the valve plunger to allow flow from the inlet 4 to an outlet passage 7. Flow past the valve plunger 8 may be utilized as a means for regulating the flow past the pilot valve. This is achieved by the passage 31 and port 33 being mounted in a rotatably adjustable rod member 32, the rotation of which varies the outlet port 33 relative to the direction of flow along the passageway 7.
