950,612. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd. Nov. 1, 1960 [Aug. 10, 1959], No.27275/59. Heading G3P. A device for controlling the flow of high pressure liquid in either direction between two passages 2, 3 comprises a pair of spring loaded valve members 7, 8 connected so that when either is open flow between the two passages is permitted, a common space 6 connected through a restrictor 19 and a non-return valve 22 to each passage, and a pilot valve 25 which when open reduces the pressure in the space 6 so that one or other of the valves 7, 8 may open to connect the two passages. In the preferred embodiment, a pump 1 is connected by the passages 2, 3 to a motor 4. When the pressure in either of the passages 2 or 3 reaches a predetermined value a ball 37 in the pilot valve is lifted from its seat against the pressure of a spring 33 so that liquid may flow from the space 6 to the reservoir and one of the valve members 7 or 8 be opened by the excess pressure to connect the passages 2, 3. The ball valve 37 may be opened permanently by rotating a cam 31 to permit a spring-loaded plunger 28 to move to the right. In normal circumstances, a low boost pressure is maintained in the system by a small auxiliary pump. The space 6 may be separated from the valve member which may be diaphragm actuated.
