Abstract

538,025. Valves. VICKERS-ARMSTRONG, Ltd., and EASTES, J. C. Jan. 16, 1940, No 947. [Class 135] A hydraulic valve for controlling the supply of pressure fluid to a hydraulic riveter, press or other tool is adapted to be operated pneumatically from a remote point and also to maintain a constant pressure in the outlet conduit. The hydraulic valve itself may comprise a rotary valve actuated by a reciprocating rack as described in Specification 465,880. The rack, 11 Fig. 2, is moved in the direction to connect the pressure supply to the outlet conduit 26 by a piston 13 subject to air pressure delivered through a conduit 15 under the control of a relay valve 18. Air pressure leaking through a restricted passage 21 in this valve acts on an integral piston 19 normally holding the valve in the position shown in which the space above the piston 13 is connected to exhaust through a port 16, passage 181 and ports 17. When the pressure above the piston is exhausted through a hose 22 and hand actuated valve 23 the valve 18 lifts to admit air to the space above the piston 13 and so move the hydraulic valve to supply hydraulic pressure to the conduit 26. The valve 23 comprises a piston having axial and radial passages adapted when the valve is lifted against the action of a spring 31 to connect the hose 22 to an exhaust port 30. The rack is moved in the direction to throttle the pressure supply to the conduit 26 by a spring-loaded plunger 36, Fig. 3, subject to the pressure in the conduit 26 admitted through a pipe 9. The loading spring 37 for the plunger is adjusted by a screwed cap 39.
