574,179. Fluid-pressure servomotors; valves. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., LISLE, W. G., and CHURN, C. R. Jan. 11, 1944, No. 534. [Class 135] A control valve for fluid-pressure operated jacks comprises a piston valve c having a cam surface which operates to open a spring-closed valve d controlling the fluid-pressure supply when the piston valve is moved from its central position thus positively sealing off the fluidpressure supply when not in use and making it possible to reduce the overlap of the piston lands k over the ports o leading to the jack q to a minimum. As shown in Fig. 1, the valve d has a stem s rounded or bevelled at its end to suit a flat V-shaped groove t between the lands k. The valve d is closed by a spring e and controls the passage of pressure-fluid from a port f through a port g into the chamber b of the piston valve. The latter protrudes through the ends of the chamber b and is provided with passages m, n to facilitate passage of pressurefluid from the jack q back to the exhaust port r. One end of the piston valve is pivotally connected at x to a floating lever u, the ends of which are connected at v and y with the pistonrod w of the jack and with a control link z respectively. If desired, the piston-rod w may be fixed and the jack cylinder q movable. The latter is connected to the floating lever and, by flexible pipes p, to the control valve. Fig. 2 shows a modified form of spring-closed valve which is balanced as regards fluidpressure and has a stem 11 of the same area as the outlet port g with which it connects by a passage 13.
