Abstract

436,744. Valve gear ; regulating. ROESCH, G., and TALBOT, Ltd., C., Barlby Road, Ladbroke Grove, London. May 10, 1934, No. 14189. [Class 7 (vi)] In valve gear wherein clearance is automatically taken up by oil supplied to a cylinder and piston forming the fulcrum of the valve rocker, an adjustment is provided for varying the space between said piston and cylinder head. In the Figure, the rocker 11 actuating the valve 10 is fulcrumed on the rounded end of a member 18 connected to a piston 20 which operates within a cylinder 21, the upper end of which is closed by a plug 29 so as to leave a pocket 31 to which oil is supplied by a conduit 23 and past a ball valve 28. In a modification, the oil is fed to the pocket from a conduit and ball valve above the piston. The oil conduit 23 may be supplied from the lubricating system, and may be fitted with a non-return valve and a de-aerating device. A small leakage path for oil may be provided from the pocket, for example between the piston and cylinder wall. Regulating.-A screw connection between the member 18 and the piston 20 provides the adjustment.
