Abstract

481,933. Valves. CROSS, R. C. Dec. 1, 1937, No. 33204. [Class 7 (vi)] In internal-combustion or other engines or pumps having a rotary valve mounted in floating - upper and lower housings, the pressure in the cylinder being applied to the lower housing and transmitted through a reducing lever system to the upper, housing, both the upper and lower housings 2, 3 and the rotary valve 1 are mounted entirely within the cylinder 4. The cylinder pressure is transmitted from the lower to the upper housing through an element 10, and the lever action of the upper housing takes effect about a spherical fulcrum 11. The lower housing is suspended from the cylinder cover 5 by tie rods 9 fitted with springs 8. Both housings are fitted with packing-rings 7. The valve may be lubricated as described in Specification 423,474, [Group XXXIV]. Specifications 451,917, 467,620, and 474,521, also are referred to.
