Abstract

421,713. Adjusting clearance. LANG, F., 41, Laimerstrasse, Munich, Germany. July 25, 1934, No. 21777. [Class 7 (ii)] [See also Group XXIX] To control communication between the compartments m, n of an air cell of a Diesel engine, a valve e is moved axially by turning a hollow screw c having internal and external screw threads c<1>, c' of opposite direction, one cl engaging a fixed housing b, and the other c<2> engaging an axially-movable screw d, which is prevented from rotating by lugs d<1> engaging slots b<1> in the housing b. The movement of the screw d is transmitted to the valve e through a spring k, which allows the valve to yield to excessive cylinder pressures when it is closing the passage between the two compartments m, n, the cylinder gases escaping through a passage z in the housing b.
