769,835. Valve gear. SOC. ANON. DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS PANHARD & LEVASSOR. June 3, 1955 [June 4, 1953], No. 16067/55. Class 7 (6). A valve rocker 1 oscillating about a stationary pin 5 is pivoted on a ball-end pivot member 4 provided with a cylindrical extension which co-operates with a piston-like nut 7 on the pin 5 to form a hydraulic clearance adjustance device, the space between the piston 7 and cylinder being filled with oil under pressure through a spring-loaded non-return valve 11. The nut 7 forms an adjustment nut for setting the clearance and it is locked by a lock-nut 8. The oil under pressure e.g. the engine lubricating oil, is supplied at 10 and flows through a passage 9 in the pin 5 to the space between the piston 7 and cylinder. In Fig. 2 the oil is supplied through a vertical pipe 13 to two inclined pipes 14, 15, leading to the clearance adjusting devices of two valves in the same engine cylinder, a spring-loaded valve 18 in a pipe 17 leading to the engine lubricating system ensuring that a predetermined pressure is built up in the pipes 14, 15, before the oil is supplied to the engine lubrication system. The inclination of the pipes 14, 15 permits any air bubbles in the oil to escape.
