Abstract

27,756. Green, W. H., and Wilson, J. W. Dec. 2. Moving-chamber apparatus. - A valve for automatically controlling the admission of liquid hydrocarbon, e.g. lubricant or liquid fuel, to the working cylinder of an internal-combustion engine comprises a cylindrical bearing a wherein a tubular reciprocating piston b is fitted, having at its lower end a conical valve g. In the piston are a pair of lateral apertures k, k<1>, and also apertures l; a screw plug m in the piston serves to adjust the capacity of the lower portion of the bore of the piston, this lower portion forming a measuring-chamber. In the cylindrical bearing is an inlet d for the hydrocarbon, and opposite this inlet, and between it and the inner end of the cylinder, is another inlet f communicating with the atmosphere. The piston is normally held up by a spring p, which may be adjusted by means of a screwed rod m and a pin r, and when the pressure under the piston falls sufficiently, the piston moves inward, the hydrocarbon being discharged through the apertures l by air which enters by the apertures f, k<1>.
