Valves, arrangement of; mountings. - Relates to pumps for lubricating internal-combustion engines, and consists in providing a ported sleeve within the barrel which is moved at the commencement of each stroke of the piston. Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of a pump, and Fig. 2 shows a pump as fitted to a motor-cycle, the barrel passing through the oil-tank 2. The barrel is closed at the upper end by a cover 4 and at the lower end has a detachable portion 3 connected by a screw joint &c. The piston is fitted with a pair of cup leathers, is moved during the suction stroke by hand and during the delivery stroke by a spring. The barrel has a suction opening 8 within the tank 2, and a delivery port 6, leading to a pipe 7 connected to the crankcasing 24 of the engine. This pipe may have a regulating valve, an indicator, or a sight-feed lubricator such as described in Specification 17526/15, [Class 12 (iii), Lubricators &c.]. Within the barrel is a sliding sleeve-valve 9 having an inlet port 11 and a delivery port 10 which can register respectively with the ports 8, 6 in the barrel. The piston moves the sleeve at the commencement of each stroke frictionally. The delivery end of the sleeve preferably is closed at 12, so that on the commencement of the delivery stroke the sleeve is moved by the pressure of the oil.
