Abstract

118,144. Guinness, K. E. L., and Carington, C. M. Aug. 11, 1917. Regulating; valves.- A conduit connecting the cylinder of a twostroke-cycle engine to the crank-case or other source of supply, to enable a portion of the compressed charge to return to the crankcase, is controlled by a reciprocating sleeve valve N working within an adjustable ported sleeve Q, which varies the opening of ports A<2> in the cylinder wall. A port N3 at the lower end of the sleeve N controls the entrance of fresh charge into the crank case. During the explosion stroke the sleeves N is depressed by a spring N<1>, closing the ports N<2>, N<3>. In a modification the sleeve N is dispensed with, and the lower part of the conduit H is controlled by ports in the rotating crankshaft or crank-disk.
