Abstract

234,064. Viet, P. May 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-A starting- device for internal-combustion engines comprises an air compressor and a carburetting or mixing device, by means of which fuel is mixed with compressed air and the mixture is injected into the engine cylinders, the air being compressed in cylinders 1, 1', the pistons 4 of which are actuated by means of an external hand lever 15, the shaft of which carries an arm connected by links 12 to the pistons. In one form, Fig. 1, air is also compressed in one or two smaller cylinders 2 by pistons 5 actuated by links 13. Air from the cylinders 1, 1<1> is expelled through valves 19 and a pipe 21 to a carburetting chamber 23, and air at higher pressure from the cylinders 2 through a more heavily loaded valve 20 to a fuel reservoir having a nozzle 22 with a capillary outlet. Fuel is admitted to the reservoir by a cock or by a valve 24 carried by a float 25. In a modification, the cylinder 2 is omitted, and the cylinders 1, 1<1> supply compressed air through a separate valve to the fuel reservoir as well as to the carburetting chamber 23. In another form, the cylinders 1, 1<1> supply air to the chamber 23 only, and cams on the lever 15 actuate liquid fuel pumps supplying fuel from the float chamber to the nozzle 22.
