[Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi).] In a fuel injection system for an internalcombustion engine the fuel is drawn from a tank and fed by a gear pump 24 to a pressure vessel 107 and thence to a distributer 45, comprising two abutting flat plates preferably lined with bronze &c., which controls the suction and delivery of a reciprocating pump feeding all the engine cylinders. The pump plunger 62 is actuated by a cam 46 which rocks a shaft 53 provided with a face 56 upon which rests a lever 57. The output of the pump is controlled by hand and governor by varying the position of the lever 57 upon the face 56. The main supply of fuel to the gear pump 24 is controlled by a valve 86 provided with a projection 96. This valve is opened by the delivery pressure acting upon the piston 95. After the 'system has been dismantled this valve is opened by the plunger 204. The output of the gear pump 24 is controlled by a piston 99 acted upon by delivery pressure and serving to byepass a part of the delivery to suction. A hand pump 169 serves to prime the injectors, pipe lines, pump and vessel 107 as far as the valve 108. A valve 189 serves to connect the priming pump to the system. The leakage from the injectors, which are of the type described in Specification 237,915, [Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for], and have pump plungers incorporated therein, is led by pipe 148 to the casing 19 where it joins leakage from the remainder of the system and is returned to the fuel tank by the gear pump 27.
