[Class 7 (iii).] Pumps b, l supply driving and igniting fuels to an injection valve t, and the pumps are actuated so that the injection valve remains open after the driving fuel has been delivered to the engine cylinder and until a charge of igniting fuel has been delivered by the pump l which forces the remainder of the driving fuel into the cylinder and leaves the igniting fuel in the valve to be injected into the cylinder in advance of the next charge of driving fuel. A lever d is pivoted to the plunger c of the driving fuel pump and is adjusted either manually or automatically by an eccentric f according to the load on the engine. The lever d carries tappets g, i which open in succession a relief valve h in the driving fuel pump and actuate the plunger k of the ignition fuel pump. In a modified construction, the pumps b, l are actuated independently and when the lever d opens a relief valve in the pump b to terminate the delivery of the driving fuel, it closes a relief valve in the pump l to cause the igniting fuel pump to deliver fuel.
