Abstract

Cam and lever actuated pumps; stroke, varying; regulating delivery by by-passes.-An internalcombustion engine adapted to work with either liquid or powdered fuel is provided with a governor-controlled fuel pump 1 adapted to deliver oil under the control of a change-over valve 4 either through a pipe 5 to the cylinder of the engine or through a pipe 6 to operate the charging valve for the powdered fuel. The pump is provided with a by-pass valve 23, Fig. 2, opened by a set screw 21 carried by a lever 20 the position of which is controlled by the governor through a rod 19. In order that a greater quantity of oil may be delivered for operating the charging valve than for oil injection into the cylinder, the hand lever 24 of the change-over valve 4, when moved to the position for working with powdered fuel, moves the end 26 of the lever 20 to the position 26', thus allowing a longer stroke of the pump plunger 15 before the relief valve 23 is opened. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the charging valve 16, 17 is operated by liquid, e.g. lubricating oil, supplied by a separate pump 31. The pump plungers 15, 30 are driven from the engine cam shaft 41 and the stroke of the plungers is controlled from the governor through a rack 42 which by means of gear wheels 43, 44 raises caps 45, 46.
