Abstract

432,839. Governors for fuel-injection pumps. SCHNURLE, A., 91, Moltkestrasse, Bad Cannstatt, Germany. Sept. 3, 1934, Nos. 25374 and 25375. Convention dates, Sept. 1, 1933 and Jan. 9, 1934. [Class 57] The governor for the fuel-injection pump of internal-combustion engines comprises two speed responsive devices, one operating as an ordinary speed governor and the other adjusting according to the speed the maximum fuel supply. The fuel injection pump a is controlled in the ordinary way by a rod b which can be set by hand lever c and has the usual over-riding centrifugal governor control d. The rod is continued to abut against a cam surface e which is adjusted across the end thereof by means of a pivoted lever f under the control of a second centrifugal governor g. In place of a mechanical speed governor, the cam member e may be moved by a piston under the influence of a hydraulic pressure which is a measure of speed. For this purpose the ordinary lubricating oil pump driven by the engine may be used as the pressure supply. In a modification a single governor may act through two separate connections as by supporting the main governor control sleeve k on a rod which is stepped and carries a washer n with springs l, q on either side. Under ordinary control the sleeve moves against the spring q when the washer n abuts on the shoulder o of the rod p. Additional control is then afforded bv the capacity of the washer n to slide endwise against the spring l. In a further modification the duplicate spring arrangement is carried by radial arms upon which the centrifugal weights i are mounted and from pins z thereon elbow levers w communicate the control to the sleeve k. In this construction the pivoting axis of the levers w are also mounted on radial pins on centrifugal weights x under the influence of spring control.
