Lever - and - spring - actuated pumps.-In fuel-injection apparatus for the cylinders of internalcombustion engines, in which fuel is supplied by a pump through a pipe d<6> and a non-return valve to an annular chamber d, from which it is injected through a passage d<2> and past an injection valve c by a spring-loaded plunger d<3> the speed of the injection is regulated by a dashpot device. The plunger d<3> is actuated by a plunger e loaded by a spring e<1> which is compressed by a lever f and a rod g<2>, actuated by an engine-driven cam. When the plunger e is moved to the right by the pressure of the fuel entering by the pipe d<6>, a liquid, e.g. oil, is drawn up a pipe m<4> and past a non-return valve to a chamber m; at a predetermined time a lug f<1>, on the lever f, opens a valve m<3> and allows the liquid to be expressed out of the chamber m past a constricted passage m<1>, thus steadying the movement of the plungers e, d<3>. According to a modification the above described dash-pot is omitted and the passage d is restricted by a plug d<3>, Fig. 3, having a flat d<4>, the cross-sectional area left being less than one hundredth part of the cross-sectional area of the plunger d<3>.
