In a fuel-injection system for an internal combustion engine having a feed-pump b supplying liquid fuel from a tank a through a filter o to a fuel injection pump d, a valve h is fitted so that, on starting, the engine fuel may be supplied direct to the injection pump to prime the engine. The valve h comprises a plunger j urged downwardly by a spring k so that on starting the engine the tank is connected to the injection pump through pipes e, f. When the pressure of the fuel delivered by the feed-pump through a pipe g is sufficient to overcome the spring k, the plunger j moves upwardly to isolate pipe f from pipe e and connect pipe g to it. Should the feed-pump delivery pressure exceed a predetermined maximum value the plunger j will move further upwards to connect pipes g and e to by-pass some of the feed-pump delivery to the tank a.
