Abstract

134,356. Erade, C. J. Nov. 11, 1918. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel; spray carburettors.-Fuel is supplied to one or more nozzles h located in the induction pipe or engine cylinder, by an engine-driven pump, the barrel a cf which is submerged in fuel supplied by a float chamber b. The pump plunger a<1> is carried by a piston n which works in a cylinder m, is loaded by a spring o, and is actuated by an adjustable tappet device comprising a link s and lever r mounted or. a pivot t of the adjustable cam or eccentric type. A passage d above the fuel level in the chamber b serves as a by-pass for fuel leaking past the piston n. The means for varying the stroke of the fuel pump may be connected to the throttle-valve actuating means. In modifications, the fuel delivery may be varied by providing in the piston n a by-pass controlled by a needle valve alone or in conjunction with a spring-loaded valve, the needle valve being connected to the throttle control. A number of pumps may be employed. The outlet e to the nozzle has a non-return valve v.
