Abstract

499,040. Supplying liquid fuel. ZUMBUSCH, P. C. July 21, 1937, No. 20186. [Class 7 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] Liquid fuel deposited in the space between a disc 4 and the end of an injector casing 1 is forced into the engine by movement of the disc towards the casing. The disc is carried by a pump plunger 5 which is raised, during its suction stroke, when pins 14 are released to enable a spring- pressed sleeve 10 to engage a flange 9 on a member 7 threaded into the plunger 5. When the plunger is forced downwards by the engagement of engine-operated means with the pins 14, fuel is delivered past a non-return valve 21 through a passage 23 to the space between the disc and the casing where it is retained until the disc approaches the casing during the following suction stroke of the plunger. To adjust the stroke of the plunger, a wheel 8 is rotated to screw split portions 7<1> of the member 7 into or out of the plunger. The space between the disc 4 and the casing of the injector may be open at the periphery or may contain one or more diaphragms 25, Fig. 5, of spring steel through which the fuel is forced. The diaphragms may be centred on a slotted spacer 3<1>.
