Abstract

423,976. Fuel - - injection pumps. REDRUP, C. B., Cranford, Cransley Crescent, Henleaze, and BRISTOL TRAMWAYS & CARRIAGE CO., Ltd., Clare Street House, both in Bristol. March 9, 1934, No. 7584. [Class 102 (i)] A fuel-injection pump comprises a movable cylinder 10 having a port 21 and a seating 20 adapted to engage a seating 19 in the pump casing which is also provided with an inlet port 22. The pump plunger 11 is connected to a sleeve 41 by a pin 29 which passes through slots 28, 33 in the pump casing and tappet 32 respectively. A spring 39 engages the sleeve 41 and actuates the plunger in the suction stroke, the length of the stroke being determined by engagement of the sleeve 41 with an adjustable plate 40. The plunger is actuated in its delivery stroke by engagement of the end of the slot 33 with the pin 29. The tappet 32 engages projections 26 upon an eccentric sheave 25 which is prevented from rotating. The tappet 32 is loaded by a spring 46 abutting a pin 44 fixed to the pump casing and passing through slots 43 in the tappet. A screwed collar 34 is arranged in the upper end of the tappet 32 and engages a collar 35 upon the cylinder so that the cylinder is positively actuated on the suction stroke. A spring 37 is arranged between a collar 36 and washers 42 and moves the cylinder towards the seat 19 during the first part of the delivery stroke.
