Abstract

727,391. Fuel-injection pumps. MONOCAM, Ltd. April 2, 1951 [April 5, 1950], No. 8587/50. Class 102 (1). In a fuel-injection pump of the type in which a number of parallel pump plungers 2 are actuated by an axially-acting cam 9, a feed pump is disposed in the pump housing and is also actuated by the cam 9. As shown in Fig. 2, the feed pump piston 18 is loaded by a spring 19 and is connected by a rod 23 to a lever 24. The rod 23 has a T-shaped head 23a that engages slots 24a in the lever 24 which is pivoted at 28 and is oscillated by a plunger member which bears against the cam 9. One end of the lever rests against a cam member 42 which can be oscillated manually to prime the pump ; alternatively, the cam 9 may be turned manually for priming. A valve housing 31 is removably attached to the exterior of the housing 1 and contains suction and delivery valves and communicates through passage 39 to the cylinder 14 that has a groove 15 communicating with slots 16. The piston 18 may be replaced by a bellows. In a modification, Fig. 9, the piston 18 is actuated by an extension 51 of a spindle 52 of the actuating member 10 of one of the fuel-injection pump plungers. A member 49 is attached to the extension 51 and actuates the piston 18 through springs 50. In this arrangement a separate manuallyactuated piston is included in the valve housing 31 for priming purposes. Specifications 580,354, 707,217 and 707,218 are referred to.
