Abstract

155,021. Anderson, W. H. Sept. 9, 1919. Spray carburettors.-Consists in an arrangement wherein a fuel jet for slow speeds is arranged in the supply tube to the main jet and is constantly in action, under the suction induced by a primary air supply, whereas the main fuel supply is regulated by a sleeve connected to and working in conjunction with the main air valve. The supplementary jet 20, for slow speeds, has a very fine orifice, and is fed from a well 31 in free communication with the float chamber 1. The jet is mounted in the supply tube 17 to the main jet 19. The tube 17 is perforated at 25 above the jet 20. A sleeve 9 slidably mounted on the tube 17 is connected to the conical main air valve 10 working in the lower end of the choke tube 11. The sleeve has a series of graduated orifices 14, 15, 16, Fig. 3, which register successively with the hole 25 when the sleeve is moved. Fuel from the float chamber is admitted to the orifices 14, 15, 16 through a hole 27 in the fixed outer supporting tube 26. An initial-air pipe 33 supplies air above the jet 19 by way of an annular passage 34, and ports 35 and 23. The graduated orifices 14 to 16 cause the main fuel supply to be regulated in accordance with the opening of the main air valve 10. In a modification, the valve 10 is fixed and the choke-tube 11 is slidable and connected by radial arms to the sleeve 9.
