Abstract

222,526. Royce, F. H. April 7, 1923. Spray carburettors.-Fuel passing from the float chamber g through a submerged orifice c<5>, Fig. 1, controlled by a suction-actuated grooved fuel valve c<6>, is aerated by air drawn from an annular chamber a<32> through orifices a<33>, c<3>, and passes out of orifices c<2> to the fuel nozzle c<10> situated in a choke tube a<37> ; the rich mixture from the nozzle mixes with a further small quantity of air drawn through the choke tube from the chamber a<32>, and passes through conduits b<4> in an exhaust-heated chamber b to a passage a<28> opening through a tube e, Fig. 3, into a chamber h adjacent the throttle valve, where it mixes with the main air supply. The main air supply is admitted through ports a<23> in a chamber a<22>, and passes through ports a<15> controlled by a sleeve d, which is carried by a suction-actuated piston d<2> connected to the fuel valve by a tube d<9> and ball-and-socket joints d<10>, d<11>, Suction is transmitted above the piston d<2> through a hole in the diaphragm d', and through ports d<4>, annular passage d<3>, and the clearance between the piston and the casing, and its under-surface is open to the air through ports a<14>. The annular air chamber a<32> communicates by a passage a<26>, Fig. 3, with the chamber a<22>. A hand-operated valve f<4>, Fig. 3, allows the suction in the chamber h to be transmitted through a tube f<2> and conduit f<3> to the float chamber.
