Abstract
188,704. Simpson, E. L. June 16, 1921. Spray carburettors. -The fuel nozzle 16 of a floatless carburettor is surrounded by an air tube 35, the nozzle being controllecl by a valve 21 provided w i t h a tapered tip 23 and carried by the stem of a suction-actuated spring-loaded valve 24 which controls the flow of rich mixture through slots 36 into a second mixing chamber 40. Primary hot air passes to the tube 35 through an inlet 14 and orifices 10, and secondarv air is admitted to the chamber 40 by a suction - actuated valve 34 carried by the air tube 35. The valve 34 is returned to closed positicn by a spring 32 which bears against a collar 39 on the tube 35 and is surrounded by a casing 25. The casing 25 is carried by a ring 30 connected by arms 31 to a ring 29, which is screwed into the middle portion 1 of the casing and forms a seat 33 for the valve 34. The spring 32 may be adjusted by turning the collar 39 or the casing 25. The fuel nozzle 16 and air inlet 14 are carried by arms 8 attached to the casing 1. In a modification, the parts 1, 40 of the casing are integral, the collar 39 on the air tube 35 is replaced by a tube provided with a dash-pot piston to cushion the movement of the secondary-air valve 34, this richmixture valve 24 is conical, the tip 23 of the fuel valve is provided with a fluted head forming a guide, and a spring-closed gate-valve is provided in the chamber 40 to prevent damage from backfiring.
