Abstract

183,549. Cockings, P. H. April 22, 1921. Spray carburettors.-The main nozzle 12 has a number of radial orifices 21 supplied from the float chamber through the valved channel 13 and an annular chamber 20. An auxiliary nozzle 27 is fitted inside the main nozzle and is fed by the by-pass 30 from the channel 13. A collar 23 slightly deflects the entering air from the orifices 21. Between the main and auxiliary nozzles is a baffle 22 on which the main mixture impinges, the sliding choke tube 7 controlling the passage around the baffle. The throttle disc 29 carries a tube 28, which, when the throttle is closed, registers with the auxiliary nozzle and allows starting mixture to pass to the engine. In a modification the baffle 36, Fig. 4, is slidable on the main nozzle and moves under engine suction against the pressure of a spring 37. The choke tube is fixed. In another modification the main nozzle consists of orifices 48, Fig. 5, controlled by a collar 49 on the tube forming the auxiliary nozzle 53, the baffle 51 being also on this nozzle. The supply to the auxiliary nozzle in each arrangement is under the control of a needle valve.
