Abstract
145,530. Tondeur, R. April 29, 1918, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-In a device for supplying light and heavy fuels to a carburettor, the fuels are delivered through calibrated ducts into a common feed chamber, the lighter fuel being supplied at a pressure higher than that of the heavier fuel and discharged through a duct of smaller section than the heavier fuel. Light fuel is supplied through an inlet 8 to a chamber 9 open to atmosphere at 10, and is then discharged through a calibrated orifice 11 leading to a chamber 6<1> whence it flows through a passage 7 to the nozzle or float chamber Heavier fuel is admitted at 4 past a calibrated orifice 6 to the common chamber 6'. The level in the light-fuel float chamber is higher than that in the heavy fuel chamber so that the light fuel forces back the heavy into conduit 4 and thus light fuel is supplied at starting. As the engine speed increases, the orifice 11 is unable to supply the whole of the fuel necessary, and the heavier fuel comes into use. The dimensions of the calibrated orifices and the pressures of the fuels can be made such that heavy fuel alone is supplied at the normal engine speed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the carburettor shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled). The control valve 1 is placed between the air inlet 2 and the main nozzle 4. The main chamber 5, auxiliary chamber 6 and the space 7 above the fuel in the float chamber are in communication through apertures 8, 9. With the valve 1 closed, air is drawn through a tube 10 in the main nozzle to provide a starting mixture. The float 12 surrounds a tube 13 enclosing a cross-shaped red 14 carrying at its upper end conical balanced valves 16, 17 working in conjunction with seats 18, 19. The rod is actuated by a cross-pin 15 on the float. Fuel enters at 20 and flows past valve 17 and rod 14 and also past valve 16 and through spaces 22, 23 to the float chamber. In a modification, two separate valves are employed, that actuated by the float having its seat in a larger and separate valve. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
