Abstract

197,909. Cozette, R. J. P. E. May 16, 1922, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-An auxiliary carburettor for supplying the engine at low speeds comprises a Venturi tube 10, 12 containing fuel orifices 11 and communicating through passages 13, 13<1> with the induction pipe 5<1> on the engine side of the throttle valve 14. The orifices 11 are supplied from an annular well 9 surrounding the Venturi tube and in communication with the atmosphere through a cock 20, Fig. 3, adjustable from the driver's position. The well is fed through a submerged nozzle 7 from the float chamber 1, the float 2 whereof surrounds the column 4 containing the main carburetting portion which delivers mixture through outlet 4' into the main air passage. 5. The vacuum in and the discharge from the auxiliary carburettor is controlled by a notch 15<1>, Fig. 4, in the throttle valve spindle 15, the maximum opening through the notch being adjusted by a screw 17. The flow from the nozzle 7 and therefore the quality of the mixture is varied by adjusting the cock 20. The orifices 11 are above the passage 13 so that petrol falls by gravity and a feed is always ensured even with the smallest vacuum.
