Abstract

145,796. Deschamps, J. 'D. Feb. 13, 1919, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Spray carburettors.-The liquid fuel is aerated before it is mixed with the air, and the oscillating-throttle 27 is controlled simultaneously with a bronze choke tube 17. The float feed chamber 1 is closed, air being admitted above the float through a pipe 8 connected to the main air intake 9. The fuel is admitted through a fine gauze 5 to a well 3 and passes to the multi-jet nozzle 18 in the carburetting chamber by way of the nozzle 10 and passages 14, 15. Air from the pipe 8 enters the passage 16 and mixes with the fuel to aerate it; the amount of this air is controlled by a valve 45 to correct for altitude or for temperature or humidity. A cap 20 is placed over the nozzle to form with the choke tube an air passage. The tube slides on a bronze liner 21, packing and lubricating grooves being formed in the tube. The throttle valve has slight clearance in its casing, and is carried by ball bearings. The valve has a slot 34 at its lower side, the slot being enlarged at the centre; air may be admitted through this slot during slow running, when the engine is supplied through the by-pass 33 bv the auxiliary nozzle 35. Air for this nozzle is obtained from the pipe 8 through the float chamber and annular passage 41, the opening around the nozzle 35 being controlled by adjusting the tube 38. The air intake has a small pocket 49, where fuel may collect, when the float is flooded; a pipe for draining this pocket is provided. A metal screen 51 in the air intake prevents backfiring. Two carburetting chambers with auxiliary nozzles may be mounted in a single body, a single throttle valve with two through passages being used.
