Abstract

474,697. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. DES ATELIERS GAMAIN. Aug. 27, 1936, No. 23522. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1935. [Class 7 (iii)] In a carburetter having a suction pipe carrying a float chamber cover and a float chamber carrying main and auxiliary fuel jets, opening movement of the throttle valve closes a conduit leading from the atmosphere to the auxiliary fuel jet. The fuel enters the main jet 13 through a calibrated orifice 13a and. is aerated by air admitted through holes 16a and a passage 16 before being discharged through an orifice 18a. An auxiliary jet 14 is supplied with fuel through a calibrated orifice 14b and aerated with air supplied through a conduit 19 before being discharged through a nozzle 14a. As the throttle opens a cam 5 reduces the supply of aerating air through the conduit 19. Both the normal and the auxiliary fuel jets have reserves of fuel which are drawn into the suction pipe during acceleration. During starting, a valve 20 having an arcuate groove 28 is rotated to allow a starting jet to deliver rich mixture through passages 23, 24 to the engine side of the throttle 4. When the engine is to be used as a brake, the valve 20 is rotated to admit air from a port 26 through the groove 28 and passage 24; simultaneously an orifice 30 in the valve, leading to the atmosphere is brought into register with a passage 25 connected to the idling passage 25a.
