Abstract

146,953. Chanard, A. July 8, 1919, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-In multiple-nozzle carburettors a nozzle for normal running is supplied from a fuel chamber, the fuel level in which falls as the suction increases. As shown in Fig. 1. there is a slow running nozzle 11 delivering beyond the throttle 14 and a nozzle 6, both directly connected to the float-feed chamber 1. An auxiliary nozzle 9 is connected to a perforated' pipe 8 in a chamber 5 open at the top to the atmosphere, and connected to the float-feed chamber. The latter is open to the atmosphere through a restricted orifice 4 and is connected to the main induction pipe 3 by a pipe 2. As the suction increases the liquid level in the chamber 5 falls and mixed air and fuel pass to the nozzle 9. In a modification, a single nozzle replaces the nozzles 6, 9, it being connected by a small passage direct to the float-feed and also to the pipe 8. In another arrangement, the slow-running nozzle and the single main nozzle are supplied from the pipe 8 only. In a modification of this arrangement, a third nozzle is used, this being supplied with heavy fuel from a separate float-feed chamber.
