Abstract

256,177. Mirlesse, L. July 29, 1925, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-Fuels of different densities are supplied to the carburettor without being previously mixed, the fuels being fed separately to the slow-running and main nozzles and, in a modification, to a third nozzle located at any convenient point. The main nozzle 2, Fig. 1, is fed from a constant level chamber 1, and the slow running nozzle 6 from a constant level chamber 3 supplied with the different fuel from a tank 4 and communicating with the slow running conduit 8, which is plugged at 7, through a pipe 5. The additional fuel is thus supplied only when the throttle is closed, but both nozzles may, by adjustment, be in action at low speeds. In the modification Fig. 2, the float chamber 1 supplies both the nozzles 2 and 6 and the additional fuel is supplied from the tank 4 and chamber 3 to a third nozzle 9 located in an extension of the carburettor chamber. In further modifications the float chamber 3 is dispensed with and the fuel fed direct from the tank 4 under pressure. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the tank 4 is provided with a mixing chamber for the different fuels in the gaseous, solid or liquid state and may also be used as a vaporizing chamber for water or any substance to be supplied to the engine by a separate pipe. The additional fuel may be mixed with combustible or neutral gases. Further, the auxiliary nozzle 9 may be located between the carburettor and the engine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
